HIFA 2009, marks the festival’s 10th anniversary, will be conducted under the theme “enlighTENment”. Enlightenment is the striving for and achievement of greater knowledge and understanding, the process through which we ‘see the light’. The evolution of HIFA over the last 10 years has been a shared journey.

Habib Koité closed HIFA 2009. This was our first time attending the closing night. This year the highlight was Willom Tight and the Tight Family. That was our first time to see him live and he gave a good performance. There was also a fire breathing magician who entertained the day time crowd. The B-Boy battle continued and it features new acts each year so the dance genre must be growing in popularity. As usual we went Around and About HIFA taking random shots.

Besides the main shows on the main stages there is the Global Quarter where there are always craft and design on show and side show happening like the acrobats from Europe who were performing this year.

The B Boys were battling it out at the Simba Youth Zone.

This year the main act on the Coca Cola green had to be Willom Tight who performed to a racous crowd. He did not dissappoint and rocked the stage late into the night. He played popular tracks like Wekumaphanya.

During a quiet time at the Coca Cola Green a magician and his young accomplace treated people who were relaxing, to some tricks, balancing knives and breathing fire.

Senegalese musician Habib Koité was the closing act for HIFA 2009 before the fireworks displaying.
